Entrepreneur Center Event Series Helps 115 Attendees Grow Their Emerging Businesses

Last Friday, December 10, The Entrepreneur Center @NVTC hosted its Grow Your Emerging Business event, the second program in its 2010-2011 event series. Three panels provided participants with valuable insights on financing, marketing and sales, and technology development.

NVTC Capital Formation Committee Co-Chair Sever Totia of Edison Ventures moderated the finance panel discussion as Hooks Johnston of Valhalla Partners, Ted Lauer of Access National Bank and Edmund Pendleton, serial entrepreneur and angel investor, discussed topics including the funding environment in today's economic/capital market, keys to positioning your company for funding, the process for raising capital and common pitfalls to avoid.

During the marketing and sales panel, E. Wayne Jackson, III of Sonatype, Inc., June R. Jewell of Acumen Advisors and Patricia Mejia of Siteworx, Inc, shared their knowledge with the audience, including a discussion of why their companies were able to grow in the current economic climate as well as how their sales and marketing strategies have changed. The discussion was moderated by NVTC Business Development, Marketing and Sales Committee Chair Nancy McCarthy of DC Rainmakers, LLC.

NVTC Technology Innovations Committee Co-Chair Steve Britt of Leach Travell Britt, p.c. moderated the technology development panel, with Bill Bonk of Emerging Strategies, LLP, Duke Chung of Parature and Ben Petro of VeriSign. The panelists discussed topics including tech development issues they have faced and how they solved them, and current and future tech development challenges.

The event also boasted an emerging business and technology showcase, featuring small- and medium-sized NVTC member companies.
