NVTC Congratulates Esther Lee on Her Appointment as Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade
Governor-elect Ralph Northam named Esther Lee as his Commerce and Trade Secretary during an event held on Jan. 9 hosted at the Inova Center for Personalized Health by Inova Center for Personalized Health CEO, NVTC Chair Emeritus and Governor-elect Northam Transition Co-Chair Todd Stottlemyer.
In addition, the Governor-elect announced his intention not to appoint a Secretary of Technology and instead to move responsibility for oversight of the Commonwealth’s technology systems and operations to the Secretary of Administration and to charge a deputy secretary with implementing data sharing among agencies to improve performance and to open up more government data for public use, innovation, and state technology needs. Governor-elect Northam also announced he will add a Deputy Secretary of Commerce & Trade for Technology and Innovation focused building out technology growth areas such as cybersecurity, unmanned systems and smart cities, as well as efforts to promote entrepreneurship across the Commonwealth. These appointments will be announced at a later date.
