Data Center and Cloud Infrastructure Committee MeetingPresented by Data Center and Cloud Infrastructure Committee
March 23, 2017
Amazon is bringing online five new solar farms to power its cloud data centers. The new solar facilities will bring 180 megawatts of power onto the grid by the end of 2017. Four of the solar farms will generate 20 megawatts of capacity, while the fifth is a 100-megawatt facility! Amazon already has an 80-megawatt solar facility in Virginia. In 2014, Amazon Web Services (AWS) committed to using renewable energy for 100% of its power needs. The company grew from 25% renewable energy at the end of 2015 to 45% renewable at the end of 2016, and has a goal of 50% renewables by year end 2017. Amazon is clearly and industry leader in data centers and renewable energy. Don't miss this presentation.
