Federal Content Marketing Review

Which content is most useful and influential during the federal buying process? While federal decision makers are turning to digital content to fill knowledge gaps resulting from budget cuts and travel restrictions, a new poll revealed some disparity between what federal decision makers find useful and contractors' content marketing priorities and plans. Monica Mayk, strategic marketing and thought leadership expert, will review key research findings and offer recommendations for aligning your content marketing strategies with federal decision-makers' needs.

Meeting: 8:00 AM-9:30 AM
Morrison Foerster
1650 Tysons Blvd, 4th Floor

Speaker: Paul Tiao, Partner, Hunton & Williams

Paul Tiao is a partner in the Hunton & Williams Washington office. His practice focuses on investigations, litigation, regulations, policy and legislation relating to a wide range of homeland security and privacy issues, including cyber intrusions, data breaches, intellectual property violations, criminal cases, electronic surveillance, FOIA and data privacy. Tiao regularly advises clients based in Northern Virginia, and frequently works closely with colleagues in the McLean and Richmond offices on cybersecurity, physical security, insurance relating to physical and cyber threats, the SAFETY Act and other issues.

Prior to joining Hunton & Williams, Tiao served as special counsel and then senior counselor for Cybersecurity and Technology to the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In that position, he advised the FBI director on operational, policy and legal issues, and represented the FBI in discussions with other agencies, the White House, Congress and industry.

Prior to the FBI, Tiao served as Judiciary Committee Counsel to the Assistant Majority Leader in the U.S. Senate, where he wrote legislation and provided advice on criminal and national security issues. He is a former assistant U.S. attorney in the District of Maryland. At the U.S. Attorney's Office, Tiao investigated and prosecuted cyber intrusions, intellectual property violations, white collar fraud, organized crime, drug trafficking and violent crimes. He also served as the coordinator of computer hacking and intellectual property cases.

Tiao began his career as a law clerk for the Honorable Mary Schroeder of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and then served as a trial attorney in the honors program of the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division. In between stints in the government, he was in private practice at a large law firm handling civil and criminal litigation matters involving complex technology.

Tiao is an adjunct professor of cybersecurity law and policy at George Washington University, and an instructor at the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. He also was recently appointed by Gov. Terry McAuliffe to serve on the Virginia Cyber Security Commission, a group established by executive order to bring public and private sector experts together to make recommendations on how to make Virginia a leader in cybersecurity.

A growing concern amongst senior government stakeholders is the risk associated with conducting mission objectives with third party business partners. Change management is not simply a process for documenting changes to your IT infrastructure. Understanding the impacts to user functionality is not limited to just the device being changed. The ability to understand "Enterprise" level risk requires a better understanding of business/ mission operations.

In this session, attendees will have the following takeaways:

  • Gain insight into the challenges the Library of Congress has faced and continues to face on the topic of change management
  • Lessons learned enabling greater operational fidelity
  • Gain insight into the evolving threat landscape associated with 3rd party business associates and expectations of your government customer

Speaker:
Sean Lang, Chief Information Security Officer, Library of Congress
