Position Description:

The Director, Membership Development is responsible for driving new membership growth and advancing the Northern Virginia Technology Council’s (NVTC) mission by attracting and engaging technology and business leaders across Northern Virginia and the greater D.C. region. Reporting to the Vice President, Membership Development, this individual will lead all direct sales efforts—identifying, cultivating, and closing new member opportunities—while ensuring a seamless onboarding experience for every new member. The Director will also manage the membership database (CRM), oversee reporting and analytics, and coordinate member orientation sessions to ensure sustained engagement and value realization.

Critical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Membership Sales and Growth: Identify, direct, and manage membership growth opportunities, maintaining hands-on engagement throughout the business development lifecycle.
  • Acquisition Strategy: Develop and execute strategic outreach plans targeting key prospects across the regional technology ecosystem.
  • Prospect Engagement: Build and strengthen relationships with potential members through personal outreach, including calls, LinkedIn engagement, in-person and virtual meetings, email campaigns, and networking.
  • Value Communication: Clearly articulate and promote the value proposition of NVTC membership to drive new sales and long-term relationships.
  • Member Retention and Renewal: Strengthen relationships with new and renewing members to increase retention rates and overall member satisfaction.
  • CRM and Reporting: Maintain an active pipeline with real-time reporting through NVTC’s CRM system (e.g., Monday, Salesforce). Ensure data integrity, generate accurate forecasts, and produce regular reports for the Vice President, CEO, and Board of Directors.
  • Orientation Management: Oversee all new member onboarding activities, including orientation events, communications, and follow-up to ensure a positive and informative experience.
  • Lead Generation and Representation: Represent NVTC at industry events, conferences, and networking sessions (often outside of traditional working hours) to generate leads, promote NVTC programs, and close new membership sales.
  • Performance Metrics: Track and analyze membership data to evaluate performance and inform continuous improvement in outreach and conversion strategies.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with marketing, events, and operations teams to align messaging, campaigns, and member engagement strategies with NVTC’s goals.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in membership sales, business development, or client relationship management, ideally within a trade association, chamber of commerce, membership organization, or professional services environment.
  • Proven record of meeting or exceeding sales targets and managing a membership or client pipeline.
  • Demonstrated experience using CRM platforms to manage relationships and report results.
  • Experience representing an organization at external events and building relationships with senior-level executives.
  • Robust familiarity with the Northern Virginia and greater Washington, D.C. technology ecosystem strongly preferred.

  • Strong sales and negotiation skills with the ability to close deals and meet revenue goals.
  • Excellent relationship management and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Skilled in CRM database management and reporting (Salesforce, Monday, or similar tools).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation and follow-up.
  • Self-motivated, goal-driven, and comfortable working independently within a collaborative environment.
  • Knowledge of the technology industry, especially emerging technologies such as AI, is a plus.
  • Deep understanding of the regional technology landscape and NVTC’s role as a convener and advocate for the innovation community.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, communications, or a related field required.
  • Professional development or certification in sales, business development, or association management (e.g., CAE, CSP) preferred.

Pay:

$90,000 per year base salary plus commission
