Position Description:
The Director, Communications leads all communications, marketing, and public relations efforts for NVTC. This role is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive communications strategy that advances NVTC’s mission, elevates its brand, and supports organizational goals — particularly in event communications, media relations, digital engagement, and member outreach.
The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer and creative storyteller with a strong interest in technology, especially the transformative impact of AI and other emerging innovations. They are curious, strategic, and detail-oriented, thriving in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The Director, Communications combines strong analytical thinking with creative vision to inspire engagement, drive visibility, and position NVTC as a leading voice in the region’s technology ecosystem.
Critical Duties & Responsibilities:
Brand Management & Strategic Leadership
- Lead NVTC’s brand strategy to ensure consistent, compelling messaging across all communications channels.
- Maintain and evolve NVTC’s brand standards and visual identity to strengthen its leadership position in the regional tech community.
- Provide strategic communications counsel to the President & CEO, including thought leadership development and industry positioning.
- Develop and implement annual communications and marketing plans that promote and advance NVTC’s events, membership growth, and strategic goals.
Event Marketing & Communications
- Lead integrated marketing campaigns for NVTC’s signature events and programs, including media outreach, content creation, event scripts, and on-site communications.
- Collaborate with Communities of Interest chairs to curate messaging that drives attendance, engagement, and sponsor visibility for all Community events.
- Align event communications with NVTC’s broader strategic priorities.
Public Relations & Media Strategy
- Execute proactive media relations strategies, including press releases, advisories, and op-eds to generate positive coverage.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with regional and industry media outlets.
- Monitor media coverage and provide insights to inform strategy.
Digital Marketing & Social Media
- Oversee and direct NVTC’s digital marketing strategy across social, web, and email platforms.
- Create and manage engaging content to expand reach and member engagement.
- Supervise the Digital Marketing Manager to ensure alignment with NVTC’s communications goals.
- Use analytics to drive continuous improvement and optimize digital performance.
Publications & Content Development
- Produce NVTC’s monthly newsletter and marketing materials with timely, relevant content.
- Identify opportunities for NVTC and member visibility in regional and industry publications.
- Manage the editorial calendar and uphold high content standards.
Qualifications:
- 10–12+ years of progressively responsible experience in communications, marketing, and/or public relations, preferably within an association, nonprofit, or member-driven organization.
- Proven success in developing and executing integrated communications strategies that advance organizational goals and strengthen brand visibility.
- Demonstrated experience managing, mentoring, and developing staff, fostering a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
- Strong track record of cross-functional collaboration, working effectively with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to deliver strategic initiatives.
- Experience overseeing digital marketing, media relations, and content development efforts to drive engagement and measurable results.
- Familiarity or demonstrated interest in the technology industry, particularly the impact of AI and emerging technologies, is strongly preferred.

Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
- An advanced degree or professional certification in communications, marketing, or management is a plus.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple issues and tasks, and work on complex, diverse projects with defined deadlines.
Pay:
$110,000 per year base salary
