The Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) is the trade association representing the Northern Virginia technology community. As one of the nation’s largest technology councils, NVTC serves companies from all sectors of the industry, from small businesses and startups to Fortune 100 technology companies, as well as service providers, academic institutions, and nonprofit organizations.

NVTC has worked for over 30 years in partnership with Virginia policymakers to advance a strong, innovative technology policy framework. We strongly advocate for policies and investments that drive competitiveness and economic strength, grow our tech workforce, and provide the infrastructure necessary to power Virginia’s technology and innovation ecosystem.

Advocating for Strong, Innovative Technology Policy Framework

In this effort, we advocate for Virginia policymakers to support the following objectives and priorities:

  • Enhance Virginia’s ability to attract companies that are seeking to expand, relocate, move corporate headquarters, or establish research operations
  • Support a comprehensive “Grow Your Own” strategy for new company formation to position Virginia as a leader in establishing innovative tech companies, as well as a top destination for researchers, early‐stage investors, and other entrepreneurs and innovators
  • Ensure Virginia maintains its status as a top state for business by minimizing taxes and regulation, preserving Virginia’s right to work status, and avoiding negative signals that drive private enterprise away from the Commonwealth

  • Infuse the next generation into our region’s technology talent pipeline through robust STEM education and apprenticeships programs and by increasing the number of STEM certifications and degrees awarded statewide
  • Create visibility for career pathways in high-growth technology fields across the Commonwealth with the goal of increasing career-ready talent and the pipeline for all career types in high-growth technology fields

  • Improve infrastructure, including transportation, energy and broadband, to support economic development and help Virginia companies compete
  • Strengthen funding to promote entrepreneurship, capital support for early-stage high-growth companies, and commercialization of Virginia higher education research
