The Future of Thinking: Humans, AI, and What Comes Next

Most of the talk about AI is about what it can do FOR us. Eric So wants to talk about what it is doing TO us.

NVTC welcomes Eric So, Sloan Distinguished Professor of Global Economics and Behavioral Science at MIT and author of The Collision: What AI Does to Us, for a conversation about how working with AI is changing the way we reason, judge, and decide.

In The Collision, he describes a growing divide between two groups:

  • People who use AI to think better and
  • People who use it in place of thinking.

Drawing on research and experience across industries, he explores what this divide means for human judgment, critical thinking, and our ability to think for ourselves.

Why it matters: Virginia is already acting. Governor Spanberger’s new AI Task Force will shape state policy on AI’s risks to the workforce, data privacy and cybersecurity. For leaders, the question is how to use AI to expand what people can do without losing the judgment and critical thinking that drive innovation.

What to expect:

  • Keynote from Eric So, MIT, author of The Collision
  • Followed by a fireside chat with David Gagliano, Director at Prometheus Hydrogen, LLC, on what these shifts mean for leaders and organizations
  • Signed copies of The Collision: What AI Does to Us for the first 100 attendees
