6. Understanding and combating chronic burnout

The following blog is written by Andrew Deutscher, CEO and Founder of Regenerate

Even if you’re fortunate to work at a great company with a people-focused culture, you and your team are still held responsible for an ever-increasing workload. When we live under the burden of unceasing stress, it affects our wellbeing and productivity.

Yes, but: challenge stress is short-term.

  • This temporary stress helps us manage a task or achieve a goal.

  • It can be healthy and can prime our bodies and minds for greater achievement.

While chronic stress endures without a chance for recovery.

  • It puts our bodies in constant fight-or-flight mode and can break down relationships, impair judgment and reduce concentration and decision-making abilities.

Why it matters: We need to create a life, a pace and a work culture we don’t daydream about getting away from, one that’s not breaking down our bodies in exchange for the hours we put in. We all need a workplace that’s inspired and driven by energy and committed to developing personal sustainability.

Go deeper: Stop chronic stress from burning out our teams. Here’s how to create a path forward.
