SySTEMic Solutions

NVTC is proud to partner with SySTEMic Solutions, Northern Virginia Community College's (NOVA) program to develop a sustainable STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) pipeline in the region with the collaboration among school divisions, university partners, businesses and community organizations. SySTEMic Solutions engages students as early as elementary school and inspires and supports them to pursue STEM education into high school, NOVA, universities and into the workforce.

There is a significant shortage in skilled middle-tier workers in Northern Virginia and SySTEMic Solutions is poised to address this deficiency by engaging students with exciting STEM programs early in their education, supporting their progress through high school and preparing them for a satisfying career in college and beyond. Not all STEM students need a 4-year degree, either. Many can successfully complete a 2-year STEM degree or certificate, save money in the process and get out into the workforce earlier than expected. SySTEMic Solutions helps build relationships between students and regional businesses that make it beneficial for them to build their career in Northern Virginia after graduating.

NOVA's SySTEMic Solutions has operated in the Prince William County region since 2010, and is expanding across Northern Virginia. In 2016, SySTEMic expects to have more than 40,000 students preparing for STEM careers.

NVTC is supporting this program, working in concert with our Equal Footing Foundation, because our members need the right skilled workers and SySTEMic Solutions is making it easier for businesses to get involved in STEM activities and career exploration opportunities for students.

SySTEMic Solutions needs volunteers to:

  • Get trained to deliver hands-on science lessons in elementary schools
  • Serve as mentors for competitive robotics programs at all levels
  • Come into high schools to participate in STEM panels for students and parents
  • Host industry site visits for high school students at their businesses
  • Host internships for high school and college students

And the program needs financial support for continued regional expansion of robotics programs, teacher professional development and program support.
