NVTC Board Member John Wood Shares Experience and Insights with Members at Lunch & Learn Event

On Jan. 23, NVTC hosted a Lunch & Learn event with NVTC Board member John Wood, CEO and chairman of the board of Telos Corporation. At this event, a targeted group of 15 C-level executives from NVTC small business members had the unique opportunity to network with their colleagues and learn from Wood’s experience leading his company to success.

During the intimate roundtable discussion, Wood shared lessons he learned since taking over Telos 20 years ago, including the need to focus on efficiency to survive and grow during a period of government cutbacks, the value of designing products for the customer without getting out too far ahead of the market, and when having a partner is and isn’t valuable.

He also stressed the importance of networking, investing in people and the value of anonymous teamwork, which he learned as a member of the Georgetown crew team. Finally, he advised entrepreneurs to start their companies with an eye toward being successful, not toward selling the company down the road.
