Fairfax and Loudoun Counties Named 2012 Digital Counties Survey Winners
The Center for Digital Government (CDG) released the 2012 Digital Counties Survey award winners on July 16. Ten winners were named nationwide in each of four population-based categories. Fairfax County was named the top digital county for the 500,000 or more population category and Loudoun County ranked seventh in the 250,000-499,000 population category.
Fairfax County was noted for several leading initiatives, including providing a number of mobile apps and services to its residents; a data consolidation effort to unify structured and unstructured land use data; energy savings programs, which include remote power management of computing resources, virtualizing servers and consolidating storage; and the Public Safety Data Exchange system, which allows many jurisdictions to share emergency call data, bringing efficiencies to emergency response.
