Twenty-One of the Region’s Innovators Presented Their Technologies at Destination Innovation
On Tuesday, May 15, more than 150 attendees gathered at the Virginia Tech Research Center – Arlington as 21 of the region's innovators showcased their company's technologies at Destination Innovation. Presented by the NVTC Technology Innovations Committee, this fresh and fast-paced inaugural event highlighted technology advancements emerging from our region and connected innovators from both large and small companies with parties interested in collaborating on technology development and job creation.
The event kicked off with keynote remarks from Opower CEO and Founder Daniel Yates. “Incremental innovations lead to revolutionary changes," said Yates, who shared with attendees the history and success of Opower, which has helped save enough energy to power a city with a population of 200,000 for one year. Yates also shared why Opower chose to locate in Virginia, including the region’s ecosystem of trained technology workers and proximity to energy regulators.

After the keynote, the 21 companies gave five-minute presentations about their innovations and showcased their technologies to potential partners and investors on the exhibit floor. The presenting companies were: Absio, AdvaICT, AFrame Digital Inc., Alcatel-Lucent, Amazon Web Services, Cellcrypt, CFN Services, Coveros, Criti, Iron Mountain Technology Escrow Services, IxReveal, Micronic Technologies LLC, MiserWare Inc., RealNetworks, Servhawk, Shared Spectrum Company, SpydrSafe Mobile Security Inc., Transaction Network Services, Unanet Technologies, Verizon Wireless and VRSonic.

A panel of judges evaluated all presentations based on delivery and innovation. At the conclusion of the program, four companies were named winners in categories based on company size. Congratulations to the following winners: startup company winner Miserware Inc., small company winner AFrame Digital Inc., midsize company winner CFN Services, and large company winner Amazon Web Services.
