(L-R) Meet the Press panelists Jill Aitoro, Chris Dorobek, Allan Holmes, Rebecca Schatz and Nick Wakeman discussing the best way to pitch to news media at this morning's event.

During the event, panelists shared tips on the best and worst ways to pitch a story, how they prefer to be contacted, and the importance of respecting deadlines. Panelists agreed that it is critical to build a personal relationship with reporters or analysts and to customize your angle to the news outlet's specific niche. In addition, they urged attendees to talk about the market and industry - not just about your company - when pitching a story. At the end of the program, attendees and panelists engaged in lively discussion, with questions ranging from how social media affects their jobs and whether they read comments responding to online versions of their stories, to how they use subject matter experts in researching a subject.
