NVTC Data Center Task Force Meets with Dominion Resources Chairman, President and CEO Tom Farrell
On Tuesday, February 15, 32 members of the NVTC Data Center and Critical Infrastructure Task Force participated in a meeting hosted by Dominion Resources Chairman, President & CEO Tom Farrell. During the session at Dominion's Regional Headquarters and Operations Center in Herndon, Farrell explained Dominion's plans to build more power stations to better serve all its customers, including the growing data center sector. He also highlighted Dominion's service reliability, stable base rates and safety record, encouraging NVTC members to locate and build their data centers in the Commonwealth.
Following Farrell's remarks, NVTC President & CEO Bobbie Kilberg and Data Center Task Force Chairman and President & COO of Lee Technologies George Newstrom, outlined the goals of the NVTC Task Force, which are to:
- Address the short- and long-term competitiveness of the data center industry in Virginia,
- Bolster the data center and critical infrastructure industry through public policy advocacy in Richmond, and
- Promote policies and initiatives to increase data center investment and expansion throughout Virginia.
Kilberg and Newstrom also explained that the cost, reliability and stability of energy rates were specific concerns of the Task Force members, expressing their interest in learning Dominion's perspective on data center customers and possible opportunities to partner with the company in the future.
The meeting continued with an in-depth presentation from Paul Koonce, CEO of Dominion Virginia Power, and Ken Barker, VP of Customer Solutions and Energy Conservation. A thorough discussion on the demands of and challenges facing data centers in Virginia followed among the task force members, Koonce and Barker.
