NVTC Sporting Clays Tournament Benefits NVTC Veterans Employment Initiative

On Monday, July 25, NVTC hosted the third annual Veterans Initiative Sporting Clays Tournament at Bull Run Shooting Center in Centreville, Va. 112 participants enjoyed HOT, sunny weather as they competed on the 14-station course.The tournament raised more than $20,000 for the NVTC Foundation.

NVTC Veterans Employment Initiative Manager Steve Jordon opened the event by welcoming all the participants and sponsors, before remarks by Steve Risseeuw of Tournament Sponsor SAP and Sheryl Swartz of Tournament Sponsor Blue Canopy. Sergeant Major Todd Weegman of the Military District of Washington also addressed the crowd about the importance of business-led efforts like NVTC's VEI connecting transitioning service members to guidance and connections in the civilian sector.

The NVTC Sporting Clays event was open to all levels and benefitted the NVTC Veterans Employment Initiative.

Now in its third year, this event supported the NVTC Veterans Employment Initiative, through the NVTC Foundation. The Veterans Employment Initiative connects veterans to employment opportunities within Virginia's technology community and provides support to member companies in their efforts to hire, train and retain qualified veteran employees.

The event was open to all skill levels. Safety and familiarization clinics were offered by staff from the Bull Run Shooting Center prior to the tournament and each team was assigned a guide who rotated through the course with them.

Following the tournament, participants enjoyed a lunch reception and awards presentation, during which NVTC Board member Steve Cooker of Monster, who co-chairs the NVTC Veterans Employment Initiative, provided updates on its programs and efforts to help NVTC member companies recruit and retain veteran employees.

First place in the tournament went to R. Kent Hill, Robert Farmer and Thomas Martin from Dominion and NVTC VP for Policy Josh Levi. Second-place honors went to Paul Lettieri, Frank Lettieri, Bill Alderson and Tony Crescenzo from Intellidyne. The third-place finishers were Chris Armstrong, Tim Bartholomay, Cary Riddock and Reuben Maher from Blue Canopy.

In addition, the tournament included held three new optional games this year to raise additional funds for the NVTC Foundation. Congratulations to the following winners of the games:

Lewis Purse: R. Kent Hill won the top honors with Robert Farmer, both of Dominion, coming in second.

Top Gun: Top honors goes to Frank Lettieri of Intellidyne for shooting a perfect score of 50. Coming in second with a score of 44 was R. Kent Hill of Dominion and Paul Lettieri of Intellidyne came in third with a score of 40.

Top Teams: With five teams participating in the challenge, the winning team was Paul Lettieri, Frank Lettieri, Bill Alderson and Tony Crescenzo from Intellidyne.
