CIT Announces Second Round FY 2012 Commonwealth Research Commercialization Fund (CRCF) Awards
On July 11, the Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) announced 22 Commonwealth Research Commercialization Fund (CRCF) awards for the second round of fiscal 2012 totaling $3.1 million. Congratulations to NVTC Board member university Virginia Tech and NVTC members SpydrSafe Mobile Security Inc. and University of Virginia for their awards:
- Dr. Thomas Campbell, Virginia Tech, Additive Manufacturing System for Nanocomposites, $200,000
- Kevin Sapp, SpydrSafe Mobile Security Inc., Data Loss Prevention for Mobile Applications, $100,000
Matching Funds Program
- Dr. Louis J. Guido, Virginia Tech, Bottomless GaN Power Devices, $150,000
- Dr. Eric Loth, University of Virginia, Innovative Nano-Textured Protective Coatings for Structurally Integrated Panels, $150,000
The awards, made to 20 organizations from industry, academia and the research community, fund targeted areas of research with commercial promise aligned with the Commonwealth Research and Technology (R&T) Strategic Roadmap. More than 90 eligible proposals were submitted, totaling nearly $14.6 million, and spanning advanced manufacturing, aerospace, communications, cybersecurity, energy, environment, information technology, life sciences, and modeling and simulation. The CRCF is an important tool for stimulating collaborative technology research across Virginia and also for helping to commercialize research and launch new advanced technology startups. NVTC has strongly supported efforts by the McDonnell Administration and legislative leaders to strengthen and expand the CRCF.
