Northern Virginia Technology Council joins Technology Councils of North America In Urging Paycheck Protection for Technology Associations

Herndon, VA (April 7, 2020) – The Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC), as part of the Technology Councils of North America (TECNA), sent a letter to Congress and the Trump Administration urging that trade and membership associations should be able to apply for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) under the CARES Act. TECNA represents tech associations in 35 states which serve over 20,000 technology firms and hundreds of thousands of employees. As it currently stands, the PPP does not include 501(c)6 trade and membership associations.

“Technology councils are some of the most important catalysts for job creation and economic growth throughout the U.S. so it is imperative that Congress and the Trump Administration include trade and membership associations as a category of who is eligible to apply for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) under the CARES Act,” said Bobbie Kilberg, President and CEO of NVTC. “The technology councils represent the best of technology and industry innovation.  Now more than ever, technology councils need the support to help operate through these challenging times and continue to grow once we reach the other side of this pandemic.”

As we navigate through the pandemic and transition to and function within a “new normal” of doing business as a nation, technology will play an enormous role in how we interact with each other as communities. Technology companies, and the councils that serve them, have always been anchors in their communities and inclusion in the PPP will be vital to helping communities across the nation move forward.

It is NVTC’s mission to serve as the voice of the regional technology community, to promote innovation, and convene, educate, and advocate for this community. As a technology membership organization representing over 350,000 employees, it is crucial for legislative support in the form of trade and membership associations being eligible for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) under the CARES Act.
