The Future of Secure and Sustainable Energy
Utility Scale Solar Projects in Virginia: Economics and Incentives
Virginia's solar capacity is growing quickly, largely driven by demand from technology and technology infrastructure businesses and also state and local incentives. Access to renewable energy is increasingly critical to Virginia's statewide economic development efforts and competitiveness. Since 2014, Virginia utility scale solar has grown from 17 MW to more than 4000 MW online or under development. Last year, Virginia policymakers established a goal of providing 5000 MW of solar capacity over the next several years. At the same time, Virginia legislators considered legislation this year proposed by some localities that would have rolled back solar incentives that are currently offered.
During this meeting, economist Fletcher Mangum will provide an overview of Virginia incentives and the economic impact associated with solar projects in Virginia.
