Understanding CMMC: The Good, The Bad, and the Costly

Presented by the NVTC Cybersecurity & Privacy Committee

Come and join the NVTC Cybersecurity & Privacy subcommittee to learn about the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC). Our speaker, Carter Schoenberg, is a former Co-Chair for this committee and is an industry expert. Carter currently leads SoundWay Consulting’s efforts as an approved Register Provider Organization (RPO) under the CMMC-Accreditation Body. CMMC is now widely discussed across the country in professional social media platforms like LinkedIn, town hall sessions, and numerous hosted webinars. Is CMMC just the latest requirement for contracts or is there more to it?

In this session Carter will provide an executive overview of what CMMC is and more importantly, what it is not. Government Contractors are commercial enterprises that are required to apply the standard of care towards cybersecurity and data privacy best practices regardless of size. These best practices range from conformance with State data breach notification requirements to even the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

Key audience takeaways:

1.           How to adequately prepare and budget for CMMC

2.           How to maximize each hour spent and each hour burned so you have a cybersecurity program that meets CMMC requirements and is actionable, repeatable, and legally defensible.

3.           How to determine an appropriate Register Provider Organization and Cybersecurity Third Party Certification Organization (C3PAO)
