Presented by the NVTC Filling the Tech Talent Gap Community
Please have your Chief Human Resource Officers and Senior Leadership register to attend the next Filling the Tech Talent Gap Community of Interest meeting to hear from a nationally recognized leader in talent, the future of work, and economic mobility. Economist Byron Auguste is the CEO & Co-Founder of Opportunity@Work – a nonprofit whose mission is to increase access to middle-wage jobs for the 70+ million U.S. workers who are Skilled Through Alternative Routes (STARs) and do not currently have a four-year degree. Byron recently wrote an op-ed for the Washington Post on the importance of skills-based hiring that's gaining attention from business leaders: “The majority of Americans lack a college degree. Why do so many employers require one?".
One of the many alternative routes STARs (workers Skilled Through Alternative Routes without a four-year college degree) gain their skills through is via community colleges and on-the-job learning experience - which is why the work being done by Northern Virginia Community College to educate, train and enable STARs to access career opportunities with local employers is key. Steve Partridge, VP of Strategy, Research and Workforce Innovation, Northern Virginia Community College, will provide additional insights following Byron’s talk. In his role Steve leads the NOVA’s corporate and workforce engagement, marketing and communication team, career services, grant development, event services and institutional research.
This session will also provide information on Tech/Cyber career fairs our members can leverage for finding talent, plus funding available for upskilling your workforce.
