NVTC's Strategic Plan

A Message from Jennifer Taylor, President & CEO, NVTC

Dear NVTC Community,

The year of 2020 marked the beginning of a new decade that set-in motion elements of the future of work and exponential growth in technology adoption due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In a matter of weeks, companies (large and small), educators and governments were forced to pivot and rethink how to deliver value to its customers, students, and citizens, respectively. NVTC was no exception. Prior to the pandemic, NVTC primarily served its members through in-person signature networking events. Today, NVTC offers programming and member experiences in a digital format and the silver lining is that the Council has witnessed a 75% increase in member engagement. The COVID-19 pandemic served as a catalyst for NVTC to pivot and provide a digital experience that extends beyond the Northern Virginia region. We have shown resilience and are now well positioned to expand our network and create a technology community that is inclusive of all organizations in the national capital region. Now is the time for the Council to build upon this momentum by not only collaborating and solving challenges together, but by better anticipating for the future as well.

The core of NVTC’s purpose has always been to drive technology innovation and workforce development in our region. As NVTC’s new president and CEO, I encourage us all to rethink the way we execute NVTC’s mission. The success of our future technology community is dependent upon and will be driven by the next generation of talent. As we look to the future, it is important to place a specific emphasis and investment on the next generation and provide them with the tools and resources to help this region thrive.

It is with great pleasure that I present NVTC’s strategic plan that sets forth four strategic priorities. The time is right for the Council and its members to invest in the next generation by aligning with academic partners, creating new educational pathways, and collaborating in a meaningful manner to fuel technology innovation driven by the next generation of workers. NVTC’s strategic plan will serve as the guiding compass to create a diverse and inclusive community where innovation and technology serve human needs at the highest level and improve outcomes.

Our strategic plan is mindful of the COVID-19 pandemic and the “new normal” it will bring to this region. NVTC will focus on growing the technology community, infusing the next generation of talent into the technology workforce, embedding diverse, equitable, and inclusive practices within the fabric of our community, and creating an agile operating model that anticipates and evolves.

I want to thank NVTC Board Members and our strategic advisors from Attain Partners who volunteered countless hours to develop this plan. Their willingness to collaborate on this project reflects their ongoing commitment to making our region a great place to live and work. By implementing this strategic plan, I am confident that the Northern Virginia Technology Council can now evolve to best serve our Next-Gen Vibrant Technology Community – NVTC.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Taylor
