VC Elevator Pitch Dinner Application Deadline

Are you an entrepreneur who fits the criteria below and wants to present your elevator pitch in front of a panel of venture capitalists and established entrepreneurs? If yes, then apply for the VC Elevator Pitch Dinner now!
The Entrepreneur Center @NVTC and TiE-DC invite entrepreneurs to apply for the opportunity to participate in our next VC Elevator Pitch Dinner that will take place on Monday, October 13. At this exclusive event, 10 entrepreneurs will have the chance to test their elevator pitches in front of venture capitalists and established entrepreneurs for frank feedback on their business ideas.
Criteria for eligibility to apply:
- Event is geared toward seed or early-stage companies
- Must be in the technology sector
- No institutional financing
- No more than $500,000 in annual revenue
- Companies that participated in previous VC Pitch events may participate again
If you are interested in applying, please send a business plan (two pages maximum) to TEC@nvtc.org before Friday, September 12 at 5:00 p.m.

Grubstake Breakfast Application Deadline

Three times each year, the Business Alliance Grubstake Breakfast brings together entrepreneurs, potential investors and business leaders in a highly innovative forum. The Grubstake Breakfast provides early-stage companies seeking focused growth capital in the range of $250,000 - $2 million a forum to present their investment opportunities to targeted audience of institutional and angel investors, entrepreneurs, business leaders and service providers. In addition, other firms frequently are invited to showcase their concepts at special spotlight tables during the networking sessions at each Grubstake Breakfast.
Companies selected to present represent a diverse group of industry sectors and typically include a combination of IT, software, life sciences, telecommunications, and government-oriented products and services. Though there are exceptions, the majority of companies selected to present their investment opportunities at these breakfasts typically are locally based companies that fit the following parameters:
- An entrepreneurial company seeking $250,000 to $2 million in focused growth capital
- A developed product idea that is ready for market
- A company with proprietary products or services that tap an unmet market need
- A company that has developed a prototype with at least initial indications of market interest (Beta or beyond)
- A company with growth potential beyond a small market segment
The University of Maryland Technology Start-Up Boot Camp

Small Business Loans

This one-hour workshop reviews the SBA business loan guaranty programs with emphasis on Express Loans which are in the range of $5,000 to $350,000. The Community Express loan program combines financial and technical assistance to enable small and home-based business owners access to business loans instead of consumer loans. Also discussed is the new Patriot Express loan program targeted to assist active and retired military veterans and their families. Participants will receive information on eligibility requirements for loans and on the availability of counseling.

TiE-Smith Fellows in Entrepreneurship Program

The goal of the TiE-Smith Fellows in Entrepreneurship Program is to help promising entrepreneurs significantly improve the odds of success for their early stage ventures. This program was launched in Fall 2005 as a partnership between TiE-DC and the Smith School of Business, The University of Maryland at College Park. After very successful runs in Fall 2005, 2006 and 2007, we will now repeat this program for a new set of entrepreneurs. In this third round, scheduled for September-December 2008, the program will be limited to only 15 budding entrepreneurs who have already launched their ventures but not yet received VC funding.
