Hear It First at NVTC: U.S. Chief Performance Officer Jeff Zients and U.S. CIO Vivek Kundra Announce New Federal IT Reform Strategy at Titans Breakfast, November 19

Jeff Zients

Vivek Kundra
Be the first to learn the federal government's new IT strategy! On November 19 at NVTC's next Titans breakfast, U.S. Chief Performance Officer Jeff Zients and U.S. Chief Information Officer Vivek Kundra will present for the first time the government's comprehensive strategy to reform how federal IT projects are built and procured.

As announced yesterday, Zients and Kundra will offer the NVTC audience recommendations on reforming federal IT, ranging from project management to procurement to budgeting and personnel reforms. Be the first to discuss private sector best practices for transforming federal IT with two of the government's top IT officials.

As Acting Director and Deputy Director for Management of the Office of Management and Budget and the nation's first Federal Chief Performance Officer, Zients has launched a series of initiatives to close the "technology gap" between the private and public sectors to cut waste and boost performance, including incorporating private sector best practices into the procurement and management of government IT projects, moving to consolidate the government's data centers and using cloud computing to reduce IT, real estate and energy costs.

As Federal Chief Information Officer, Kundra directs the policy and strategic planning of federal information technology investments and is responsible for oversight of federal technology spending. He establishes and oversees enterprise architecture to ensure system interoperability, information sharing, information security and privacy across the federal government, while working closely with the chief technology officer to advance President Obama's technology agenda.

Accredited Investors: Learn About Five Regional Technology Startups at Entrepreneur Spotlight, November 3

Are you an accredited investor looking to learn more about area technology startups? This fall, The Entrepreneur Center @NVTC will provide startups seeking seed and early stage funding an opportunity to present their concept in front of an audience of accredited investors at its next Entrepreneur Spotlight program, Wednesday, November 3.

The Entrepreneur Spotlight program allows both experienced and potential new investors to hear the exciting and innovative ideas of startups pursuing seed funding. Unlike other regional events, Entrepreneur Spotlight will focus on companies that are truly in the startup phase and may only be looking for small amounts of funding.

During the event, the startups will have five minutes to present their business concepts and will be given 10 minutes to answer questions from a panel. Event attendance is limited to individuals that qualify as accredited investors.

The program is intended solely to provide attendees an opportunity to learn about new emerging companies and hear directly from these entrepreneurs about what their companies do, how they do it, what markets they address and their plans for future growth. The program is informational only. No offering of securities will be made by any participants and neither this program nor the presentations by the participating companies should be deemed solicitations of interest for investment.

Senator Webb Places Hold on Pentagon Nominations in Response to JFCOM Data Delays

Senator Jim Webb announced Monday that he will place a hold on all Department of Defense civilian and flag/general officer nominations until Pentagon officials respond to his request for data supporting Secretary Robert Gates' recent proposal to close the U.S. Joint Forces Command in Hampton Roads.

In a letter Sen. Webb sent to Secretary Gates on Monday, he stated that more than two months have passed since he requested information through the Congressional Research Service about current and historical staff levels in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, calling the Pentagon's failure to respond to a request for basic information "indicative of the lack of cooperation that has characterized the proposal to close the U.S. Joint Forces Command." Webb's letter continued, "Such data is highly relevant to our ability…to assess a proposal that has significant ramifications not only in Virginia but throughout the country and also overseas."
