Steve Case to Keynote Oct. 14 NVTC Titans Registration Now Open!

Steve Case

Join your NVTC colleagues on Friday, October 14, for the first Titans event of the 2011-2012 season to hear Startup America Chairman and Revolution CEO Steve Case provide insight on the state of innovation and entrepreneurship in our industry.

Case is one of America's best-known and most accomplished entrepreneurs and philanthropists. In January 2011, he was named Chairman of the Startup America Partnership, an independent alliance of then most innovative entrepreneurs, corporations, foundations, universities and other leaders working with President Obama to increase the prevalence and success of U.S. entrepreneurs.

After years of partnering with more than a dozen entrepreneurs as an investor and mentor, he created Revolution in 2005 to oversee his rapidly expanding investments. Revolution has four divisions: Revolution Growth, Revolution Ventures, Revolution Health and Revolution Places, dedicated to investing in people and ideas that can change the world.

Case co-founded America Online (AOL) in 1985, served as AOL Time Warner Chairman of the Board until 2003 and is Chairman of the Case Foundation, which has invested in hundreds of organizations, initiatives and partnerships in the U.S. and around the globe.

You won't want to miss this opportunity to hear the man CNBC calls "one of the nation's greatest entrepreneurs!"

Put Your Company on the Map: Techtopia Spots Are Going Quickly!

More than one third of the logo spots for the 2012 13th edition of NVTC's popular Techtopia Map have already been spoken for. Don't miss your opportunity to show where your company fits into the Northern Virginia tech community! Not only will having your logo on the Techtopia Map help increase your company's exposure in Northern Virginia and the Washington Metro area, you'll also be helping a good cause. A portion of the Map proceeds will benefit the Equal Footing Foundation (www.efooting.org), which supports computer clubhouses for underserved youth in Fairfax and Fauquier Counties.

Individual logo spots are available for technology companies or technology nonprofits for just $1,000. There are also a limited number of industry-exclusive major sponsorships open to associate or technology member companies for $4,000.

Small Businesses: Take the TechAmerica Small Business Policy Issues Survey

TechAmerica, an NVTC partner, is seeking your company's input in order to create a TechAmerica small- and mid-sized business agenda for creating jobs and encouraging innovation.

In January 2011, TechAmerica created a summary of its overall public policy agenda for an innovation economy to brief the new Congress. TechAmerica would like to create a similar agenda that highlights its small- and mid-sized business member priorities in order to ensure that sufficient emphasis is being provided to meet your specific needs in Washington, D.C.

Your participation is important as your opinion will help shape and determine which issues TechAmerica will advocate for before Congress and the Administration in an effort to promote a pro-growth environment for small businesses. Take a moment to fill out the survey and provide your input on the federal tax, trade, technology and talent issues that impact your company's growth and ability to meet business challenges. Join GMU for the 2011 Fall for the Book Festival Sept. 18-23

Join George Mason University for the week-long Fall for the Book Festival on September 18-23, 2011. The festival began as a two-day literary event in 1999, organized by George Mason University and the City of Fairfax, and has expanded into a week-long, multiple-venue, regional festival that brings together people of all ages and interests.

The festival advances children's education by hosting specially tailored writing workshops or readings for students at the elementary, middle and high school levels and by publishing an annual anthology of student writing in partnership with the Northern Virginia Writing Project and Dominion Virginia Power. It also makes literature fun by showcasing literary events in an active, engaging atmosphere that includes skits, dance and storytelling, as well as by introducing young people to living authors whose work they're reading in the classroom.

Events will take place at George Mason University's Fairfax Campus and at locations throughout Northern Virginia, D.C. and Maryland. All events are free and open to the public. For more information, visit http://fallforthebook.org/.
