Startups: Showcase Your Business at Entrepreneur Spotlight!
The Entrepreneur Center @NVTC is seeking startups to showcase their business concepts in front of an audience of accredited investors at its next Entrepreneur Spotlight program, May 5.
The Entrepreneur Spotlight program allows both experienced and potential new investors to hear the exciting and innovative ideas of startups. The companies selected to participate in the program are truly in the startup phase and may only be looking for small amounts of funding.
During the event, technology startups will take five minutes to present their business concepts and will be given 10 minutes to answer questions from a panel. Event attendance is limited to individuals that qualify as accredited investors.

The program is informational only. No offering of securities will be made by any participants and neither this program nor the presentations by the participating companies should be deemed solicitations of interest for investment.

UPCOMING EVENTS Supported by The Entrepreneur Center @NVTC:
Webinar: Defining your Business Model - February 10
Hosted by CIT
Your business model can be your pathway to success and profits, but many early-stage entrepreneurs don't know how to consider what their business model should be and what the ramifications are to selecting the correct model. For companies performing early-stage R&D, like those writing and implementing SBIR/STTR grants, understanding business models is an important key to a successful commercialization strategy. This webinar will present various possible business models, review some examples of successful outcomes (with particular attention paid to licensing) and present important "go to market" planning tips.
Seats are limited and advanced registration is required. Registration closes one day prior to each webinar. This webinar is funded in part by a grant through the Small Business Administration.
Click here for more information and to register.
INNoVATE, Creating Tech Transfer Agents and Entrepreneurs - February 16
Hosted by the Technology Transfer Society of DC
INNoVATE is a new program that focuses on postdoctoral fellows as tech transfer agents. The year-long program covers how to evaluate a technology for commercial viability, and then assists participants in writing a business plan and starting a company based on it. Sally Sternbach, David Fink and others that have been involved with INNoVATE in its first year will describe the program, discuss the lessons learned, and discuss ways for the broader tech transfer community to become involved in this effort.
Click here for more information and to register.
Avoiding Surprises in Licensing - February 16
Hosted by MITEF
Before you can grow a great company from someone else's patented idea, you need the right to use it. Licensing is a wonderful tool for bringing in new technologies and capturing value from your own IP, but can lead to misunderstandings, pitfalls, and surprises if not done well. Come hear two early-stage companies and an all-star veteran panel tell their stories of success and things that they (or their stakeholders) wish they did differently.
Click here for more information and to register.
Webinar: DoD SBIR Award Winners Panel - February 17
Hosted by CIT
Several successful SBIR firms who have taken their DoD SBIR projects to Phase II and Phase III will provide tips on how they have been successful, roadblocks to expect, how they are leveraging DoD SBIRs into the commercial world, how to make the process effective and challenges that they still face. Learn from those who have spent five to 10 years performing their Phase I and Phase II projects successfully! Our panelists have had experience with Army, Navy, SOCOM and other departments, the DoD CPP, working with major primes and more. This is ideal for those with current Phase I or Phase II DoD SBIR/STTR projects.
Seats are limited and advanced registration is required. Registration closes one day prior to each webinar. This webinar is funded in part by a grant through the Small Business Administration.
