Gov. McDonnell and Amazon.com Plan to Open Two Fulfillment Centers in Virginia, Creating More Than 1,350 Jobs
On December 22, Gov. Bob McDonnell and Amazon.com Inc., parent of NVTC Board Member company Amazon Web Services, announced the company’s plans to open two fulfillment centers in Virginia, investing a total of $135 million. The company will invest $85 million in Chesterfield County, creating more than 1,000 jobs, and $50 million in Dinwiddie County, creating more than 350 jobs. The new facilities are expected to be completed by fall 2012. Gov. McDonnell approved a total of $3.5 million in grants from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to assist Chesterfield and Dinwiddie Counties with the project.
