800 Guests Attend Tech Celebration: NVTC's Annual Banquet

Carly Fiorina Keynotes: Identifies Major Policy Issues and Commends Tech Community for Empowering People to Make a Difference

HERNDON, VA., Nov. 17, 2006 – Approximately 800 guests - leaders from the technology business community, government and academia - gathered for Tech Celebration: NVTC's Annual Banquet at the Hilton McLean to be transported to "A Night at the Forum." Amid the ambiance, guests networked, enjoyed sumptuous fare and were enthralled by the inspirational keynote speech by Carly Fiorina, former CEO of Hewlett-Packard and author of The New York Times bestseller, Tough Choices: A Memoir.

Among the special guests at the event were Congressman Tom Davis, Congressman Bob Goodlatte, Congressman Frank Wolf, Virginia's Technology Secretary Aneesh Chopra, George Mason University President Alan Merten, Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Gerry Connolly and numerous members of the Virginia House of Delegates.

During her keynote address on leadership, Fiorina discussed her tenure at Hewlett-Packard and the decisions she made as its CEO. She also discussed the complexity of leadership and the centrality of character and ethics, especially in today's business and political environment. Fiorina noted that for the United States to remain competitive, it must have an immigration policy that welcomes and attracts the best and brightest foreign students and keeps them here when their education is concluded. She identified global competitiveness, health care and environmental issues such as global warming as major challenges facing our nation in the 21st century. Fiorina concluded her remarks by stating that the "technology industry empowers people to make a difference" and that, despite the challenges of major policy issues, the 21st century is the greatest in history because "more people are being empowered in more places to make a positive difference."
