NVTC, ITAA Praise Plans for Stronger DHS CIO

Arlington, VA - March 15, 2007 - The Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) and the Information Technology Association of America (ITAA) today issued the following joint statement praising plans to strengthen the role of Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff announcement the plans at a breakfast meeting today hosted by NVTC and ITAA.

A stronger CIO means stronger homeland security. ITAA and NVTC applaud the decision to centralize IT financing, planning and hiring authority under DHS CIO Scott Charbo. With this move, DHS has adopted a model commonly used by commercial companies. The result should be better planning, fewer redundant investments, and more powerful, enterprise-wide capabilities to strengthen homeland security and improve efficiency.
