Governor and Board Members Discuss Vital Issues to the Technology Business Community

HERNDON, VA - March 13, 2007 - Virginia Governor Timothy Kaine this morning met with 46 members of the NVTC Board of Directors to discuss his policy initiatives and the results of the 2007 General Assembly legislative session, and their implications for the technology business community of Northern Virginia and across the Commonwealth. The Governor was introduced by Virginia Secretary of Technology Aneesh Chopra.

The Governor, the Secretary of Technology and NVTC Board members delved into a number of crucial issues including the transportation funding plan passed by the General Assembly; Virginia's economy and globalization; funding for higher education; important research activities; transportation technology initiatives; healthcare IT; broadband expansion in the Commonwealth; and strategies to grow the science, technology, math and engineering workforce in the Commonwealth.

After the meeting, Governor Kaine said, "NVTC is a strong advocate for the technology community and its priorities, and I always appreciate the opportunity to talk with the Board about important policy challenges like transportation."

The Governor is often a guest at NVTC events. In November 2006, he was the keynote speaker at a special NVTC and The Telework Coalition event on telework that attracted more than 100 technology executives. In February of that year, the Governor discussed his goals and priorities for the Commonwealth at an NVTC and Greater Washington Board of Trade forum that drew 435 business and technology executives.
