NVTC Tech Chat: The Future of the FCC's 2012 Spectrum ActHoward S. Hogan of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP will kick off the inaugural Tech Chat with an overview of legal issues raised by the FCC's announced plans to auction off part of the TV broadcaster's spectrum for use by mobile broadband providers. Through the 2012 "Spectrum Act," Congress empowered the FCC to reorganize the broadcast spectrum through a market-based auction, in order to incentivize broadcasters to relinquish their rights in favor of wireless providers. The FCC's rulemaking, however, has been subject to challenge and has been delayed to 2016 while these challenges play out. This Tech Chat will provide a useful guide to the issues that may help determine the future of this unique technological resource.
