Mandatory Paid Sick Leave and Its Effects on Federal Contractors
On September 30, 2016, the Department of Labor published new regulations implementing Executive Order 13706, Establishing Paid Sick Leave for Federal Contractors. The regulations, which go into effect on January 17, 2016, require parties who enter into covered contracts with the Federal Government to provide covered employees with up to seven (7) days of paid sick leave on an annual basis. This presentation will provide guidelines for determining contract and employee coverage, paid sick leave entitlements and whether existing paid time off policies must be modified. In addition, the presentation will address the recordkeeping requirements associated with the administration of such leave and steps that should be taken to maintain compliance with the regulations and other applicable laws. The presentation also will include a brief update on the new overtime regulations, which go into effect on December 1, 2016.
