Virginia Attorney General Launches Patent Troll Unit
An overwhelming percentage of all patent litigations today are filed by Non-Practicing Entities (NPEs) also known as Patent Trolls. And the most frequently targeted industries are high-tech and medical. To combat this growing issue, the Virginia Attorney General's office recently launched a Patent Troll Unit. Companies in the Commonwealth can report potential violations by patent trolls to the newly formed Patent Troll Unit. The Unit will investigate the suspected cases of patent trolling and is authorized to seek civil penalties and injunctions against persons or businesses who assert bad faith patent infringement claims, even when they are located outside Virginia.
Join us on May 24 to hear directly from Attorney General Mark Herring. AG Herring will discuss what this new Unit means for Patent litigation in the Commonwealth. He will also discuss what role our membership can play in spotting these Patent Trolls and how to utilize the process to assist Virginia businesses.
