Telecommuting Task Force Committee
Mission Statement
The Telecommuting Task Force's mission: to promote telecommuting (also know as Telework) strategies that provide the capability for operational continuity and increased organizational resiliency, greater productivity, and reductions in overhead costs, labor turnover and absenteeism, while at the same time providing employees with a better balance of work and family life. Additionally, to promulgate the contribution that telecommuting makes to employers' Corporate Social Responsibility policies. Active telecommuting programs demonstrate a committed involvement in efforts to reverse Global Warming by reducing their carbon footprint because of the mobile emissions avoided as a consequence of telecommuting.
What's New
Due to the complexities of transportation and telework issues and the focus of NVTC, the transportation and telework committee decided to limit its initial emphasis to certain areas where NVTC members might have particular interest or expertise. The initial areas for study, information, participation and support are:- Exploration in the telework area to educate NVTC members about the benefits of telework and to develop legislative positions that would reduce legal and financial obstacles to telecommuting.
- Education of NVTC members on the potential opportunities to improve transportation and telework efficiencies through "Intelligent Transportation and Telework Systems" (ITTS).
- Providing a forum for the development of a comprehensive NVTC position on various transportation and telework proposals made by state and local government, citizens groups, and other organizations and for taking positions on legislative and funding proposals affecting transportation.
- Strongly supporting the designation of right of way for and construction of the "Techway," a limited access road that would connect Maryland and Virginia.
- Providing educational opportunities for NVTC members on transportation and telework and telework issues, and to respond to questions and positions by NVTC members on transportation and telework issues.
- Providing an on-line service which lets NVTC members track the vehicle miles not driven because of their telecommuting and other travel avoidance programs, and that will provide reports showing the extent of their carbon footprint reduction and their program's contribution to corporate resiliency through having a distributed work capability in case of disaster.
