Mission Statement
The Nanotechnology Committee promotes the development of the nanotechnology industry in the Greater Northern Virginia region by encouraging cooperation among industry, government and academia and by attracting new assets to achieve the vision of "The Nanoplex on the Potomac."
Goals and Objectives
1. Promote five fundamental requirements for establishing a nanotechnology industry: Research, Development, Commercialization, Production, and Workforce Development.
2. Support the acquisition of Research and Development funding for the region's universities, industry research, and other research institutions.
3. Foster an environment of nurturing and seeding entrepreneurial nanotechnology startups and involve the region's big businesses to assist in achieving this goal.
- Facilitate establishment of incubating resources, both facilities and virtual support systems, for nanotechnology startups
- Promote the creation of a virtual R&D hub consisting of federal government laboratories and institutions, universities, and industry -- "A Nanoplex Center."
- Facilitate consortiums and partnerships among academia, government, and industry in R&D and commercialization.
5. Marshall the region's service industry, Angel and Venture capitalists, law firms, Certified Public Accounting firms, Marketing and Public Relations firms, and other professional services businesses, to provide mentoring and other sponsorship services to nanotechnology start-ups and re-locations, including involvement in consortiums.
6. Establish a strong working relationship with nanotechnology and nanobusiness trade associations.
7. Publicize the region's nanotechnology industry developments through coordinated and focused public relations, press releases and marketing; participate in conferences and symposiums.
8. Conduct periodic events and activities that support the goals and objectives of the NVTC Nanotechnology Committee.

The Nanotechnology Committee holds a monthly committee business meeting on the 3rd Thursday of each month. These meetings include networking, discussions about committee business, and a guest presenter, providing attendees the opportunity to learn about project success stories and new technologies. Unless otherwise announced, we will hold our monthly committee business meetings at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, 1650 Tysons Blvd, McLean (Tyson's), VA 22102.To Be Announced
How to Join
Monthly committee meetings are held on the third Thursday evening of each month at 6:00 p.m. and are open to all NVTC members. If you are interested in becoming a member, please contact Pam Covington, (703) 904-7878, x209, pcovington@nvtc.org.
Committee Teaming
Nanotechnology, by its very nature, requires collaboration among multiple scientific disciplines. The mission of establishing a regional nanotechnology cluster will require collaboration from many other sectors, including academia, business, finance, publicity, legal, and government. The NVTC Nanotechnology Committee sees opportunities to work with a number of NVTC's established committees:- BioMedTech Committee -- to work with this committee on issues related to the convergence of biotech and nanotech; to promote existing efforts to establish a local biotech industry.
- B2G Committee -- to identify government organizations and leaders who can promote the nanotechnology industry.
- International Committee -- to liaison with the local international community, provide exposure abroad for regional nano-business trends and to learn about nano-business trends and market opportunities abroad.
- Capital Formation Committee -- to explore financing and investing issues and opportunities in nanotechnology and to help that emerging community understand the industry and its opportunities.
- Government Affairs Committee -- to assist the NVTC Government Affairs Committee in advocating state and local policies to help the nanotechnology industry grow.
