The government has so many rules, it's difficult to keep up with which ones are being actively enforced at any given time. For years, it seemed, the government only paid lip service to the prohibitions in the Trade Agreements Act (TAA), but recent False Claims Act qui tam cases against three major suppliers of office products, OfficeMax, Office Depot and Staples, resulted in settlements totaling nearly $22 million thanks to the whistle-blowing efforts of a competitor, Safina Office Products.
