John C. Backus, Jr.

Draper Atlantic

John Backus is a seasoned technology entrepreneur with over 15 years of experience investing in and managing rapidly growing, high-technology companies.

Prior to founding Draper Atlantic, he was a founding investor and the President and Chief Executive Officer of InteliData Technologies, leading InteliData's predecessor, US Order, through a successful $65 million IPO in 1995.

Mr. Backus has negotiated over dozens of merger, acquisition, divestiture, venture investment, and corporate finance transactions and currently manages a $138MM venture capital portfolio at Draper Atlantic.

Mr. Backus currently serves on the Board of Directors of Amazing Media, American Greetings.com, Appforge, Artifact Software, Trancentrix, & Vente. He is also the immediate past Chairman of the Northern Virginia Technology Council, and was appointed by Virginia Governor Mark Warner to co-chair the Virginia Research and Technology Advisory Commission.

Mr. Backus holds both a BA and an MBA from Stanford University.
